19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He defended four early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
